Welcome Brothers, Welcome Pledges / Psi U Mystery

Pledge Educator's Report
This semester Epsilon Iota finds itself with 6 out of 7 biddies as new pledges, and 1 pledge from the spring. This brings this semester's pledge class up to a healthy seven. All of our pledges are interesting and eclectic people with varied backgrounds, each bringing a new perspective into the fold of our fraternity. We are extremely happy to have them as future brothers of our chapter.

Pledge Introductions

John Carpenter, Class of 2004
e-mail: carpej2@rpi.edu

I have no idea what to write for this thing. I can't find any inspiration right now. Who am I? I seem to have forgotten my name. Dammit. My name is John Carpenter. (There must be a better way of wording it.) I am not John Carpenter and this whole sentence is a lie. Paradoxes are the beginning of all sanity. My hometown is Jamesville, a small sub-suburban town right outside Syracuse, NY. Still no inspiration. Who am I? That question never gets any easier. I am the Locust, devouring the crops. I am the All-Seeing Eye, observering all the nuances of this world; unfortunately, I'm easily distracted. I am the Rat, running through the Maze as part of a classical conditioning experiment. Hi, I'm John and I respond to stimulus.

Min Chiou, Class of 2002
e-mail: chioum@rpi.edu

"I'm Min, the one associated with kitty noises. I started that habit in high school, but at RPI it's occasionally more amplified - watch your shoelaces. I practice Aikido also, where falls and graceful dynamics are as desirable as the spontaneous motion of a cat napping. From Aikido, Buddhism and observation of self and surroundings, I have been impressed with harmony and the arts of integration in my environment. That is why I'm happy to be at Psi Upsilon. To be more involved in taking care of brother and being shared in life is very awakening. Thank you for you. Have a good day."

Lurene Grenier, Class of 2004

Lurene Angela Grenier, Computer Science, West Springfield, MA
I'm an athiest and a capitalist. I believe in the power of the human mind and nothing else. I worship engineering and engineers. I live my life on the premise that there is no real world problem that cannot be solved with rational thought. There is no virtue greater than that of a mind overcoming a problem.

Kirsten Johnsen, Class of 2003
e-mail: johnsk2@rpi.edu

My name is Kirsten Johnsen. I am a computer science major currently in my sophomore year. I hail from Boxford, MA among other places. I like to SCUBA dive, play with computers, play with philosophy and read. I'm sure I do other things, but I can't recall what at the moment.

John McNeil, Class of 2001
e-mail: mcneij@rpi.edu

My name is John McNeil. I like cars. I am a physical reincarnation of Peret… I have red hair. I am currently on Co-op doing engineering work.

Jennifer Parker, Class of 2003
e-mail: parkej4@rpi.edu

Jennifer Parker, Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering Dual Degree, Haverhill, MA
NASA, Space, Soccer, Lacrosse, Juggling, Science, and onward and upward. Anything else you want to include: I'm very involved here at RPI. I work with four varsity athletics teams, the Juggling Club, SCUBA Club, the AIAA, and now Psi Upsilon among others. I am also an educator at the Troy Junior Museum that is now in the Winslow Building at the base of RPI's campus. When I'm not here taking classes I am on co-op at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia. I truly love this job and the work that I do while I'm there. I have done two co-ops there now, working in the Subsonic Aerodynamics Branch and the Atmospheric Sciences: Radiation and Aerosols Branch. I will be returning again this summer for my third co-op and to further expand my experience as I'll be in a new branch, although I don't know which one yet. Being a full time NASA employee is a dream come true and is definitely worth pushing back graduation by a semester. It puts me one step closer to achieving my ultimate goal of becoming an Astronaut!

Kevin Schuman, Class of 2003
e-mail: schumk@rpi.edu

Kevin Edwin Schuman, Chemical Engineering, Lakeville, PA
I like to watch Japanese animation. I read sci-fi and fantasy novels. I'm a huge fan of Star Wars. The harmonica is my instrument of choice, and I'm the current president of the Society for Creative Anachronism at RPI.
