PSI U HOOTS

Bob "Bumper" Corell, EI 334, and his wife, Sue, wanted us to know that David Hutchinson Corell was born on Friday, April 28, 2000, at 10:21AM weighing in at 8 lbs., 3 oz. and is 20 inches long. Both Sue and David are doing well and Chelsea is tickled to have a new baby brother.

James Kochanski, EI 354, accepted a product manager's position at Alloy Polymers in Richmond, Virginia. He moved to Richmond while Sue, Nicholas and Alexis remained in Michigan to sell the house. They later joined Jim in August and have settled down in Chesterfield, VA.

James Hinsey, EI 358, is finally turning to some serious Science Fiction writing. He's joined a small writers group and has been networking in the area by joining the RI Science Fiction Club. He's also been helping RISFC with their cable access show Sci-Fi Journal. He has also been publishing SF related articles online at Themestream.com.

Tom Hoffmann , EI 366, and his wife Laura have moved to Silver Spring, Maryland. Tom is off of the waiting list and will be attending medical school at USUHS (Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences) in Bethesda, MD. They are REALLY excited! With only 1 day to shop, Laura found a great house in sort of a golf course community (okay-it's across the street from a public golf course) that is a short walk to a park. Cute single family home on a dead end street 10 minutes away from the med school! Little Tommy is pretty excited that she found him a yard that has a tree with dirt to dig in. He is growing lots, 41 inches and 41 lbs!!! And just turned 3 on June 27.

Elisa Barney-Smith, EI 376, and Scott Smith, EI 364 had this to say back in August: "Scott and I are checking our email from an internet cafe in Luebeck, Germany. We are here on a four week trip . The main purpose was to go to the Bundesvolstanztreffen (German National Folkdance Festival). This week we are on a one week trip through Meckelenburg-Vorpommern as guests of a folkdance group here. Other news is that Scott got an offer for a visiting Assistant Professor in our Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at BSU. He will also be starting a second PhD this Fall, this time in EE, but we expect it will be easier as he needs only 3 courses and the biggest thing one learns in doing a PhD is how to do it."

Rebecca Tucker, EI 399, reports: "Nothing new here. We're hanging out in San Jose watching the world go by. August 11 marked our 10th wedding anniversary. In celebration, we finally got away from the kids for two nights in a row ... we flew to Reno to spend their inheritance. Scott Tucker, EI 393, and I are spending a lot of time and money on the customizable card game known as MAGIC. We've been at it for 1½ years now and really enjoy it. Anyone out there collect or play? The kids are growing fast. Andrew turned 4 on August 27 and Serena turned 2 on July 3. Andrew is evening out finally with his moodiness, although the last couple of days have been hell. Andrew also started preschool and is doing great. Serena has entered the terrible twos and is on her way to being potty trained. If any alumni will be in New York in December and January, Scott, Andrew, Serena, and I will be out in New York for a visit. We're planning to come out 12/20, returning to San Jose 1/5. If anyone is interested in seeing us, drop us a line at rebecca.tucker@hds.com and we'll make time to get together ...kids welcome. Email: the47tuckers@worldnet.att.net, or phone 408-954-1914 (CA), 518-634-7043 (NY)."

Chris Peloso, EI 403: "I've been doing some writing myself these last few years. I'm about 3/4 done with my second novel. I've got a very boring job that affords me the luxury of writing while at work. Of course, I have no illusions about ever getting published. You need to get lucky and know the right people for that to happen. So I've put my first novel on-line at http://members.tripod.com/~choas2/COP/"

Tanya Moy, EI 421, and Ernie Daniels, EI 391, were married on September 16, 2000. It was a big bash with many brothers in attendance. See Page 12.

Doug Prinn, EI 424, after 15 months in the desert of Tucson AZ, has decided to return to the Northeast and take a position at Mercury Computer in Chelmsford, MA. He'll miss the dry, warm (blazing hot) weather, but the money is good and it will be closer to family and friends. His personal email is dprinn@yahoo.com. (He'll be leaving Raytheon on Cinco De Mayo, 2000.)

Jean-Etienne LaVallee, EI 430, personal email has changed to levendis47@levendis47.com

Jessica Fredericks, EI 439, has a small piece of news. Her first scientific publication came out in September. The article called "Vav Family Proteins Couple to Diverse Cell Surface Receptors" was published in the journal Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB for short). No one will know what the heck she's talking about, but if you need any more info (abstract, author list, etc) let her know. She also has some pictures from Founder's Day 2000, but she hasn't gotten around to downloading them. Nothing like waiting for the last minute!

Maeve Taylor, EI 440: "Hi! I have one year left in graduate school at the College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. When I finish I'll have a masters degree in Environmental and Forest Biology. As my graduate project I'm developing a nature center for the Montezuma Wetlands Complex (a 36,000 acre area managed for wildlife conservation through government and private partnerships in the Fingerlakes area). I get to work on a variety of aspects, from fundraising to interpretive programming and exhibit planning. I am also working for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. When I'm done with school I'll be working for them full time and will hopefully be moving to a Refuge on the coast! My dog Hoolighan sends you all a big lick!" (continues on Page 3)
