Notes regarding the Floor Plans drawn up based on the 3 to 3 Alumni Meeting. These are based on my impressions shortly after the meeting and on the written minutes (as drawn up by Brian Menyuk). Question can be addressed to me (David Manthey), but if it isn't written here, I may have forgotten the answer. Some rooms are referred to by direction. The front of the house faces WEST. (1) The drawings are not necessarily to scale. Although I have tried making them accurate and at 1/8" = 1', I only worked from a scan of the architect's drawings, not from actual dimensions. (2) To the best of my ability, these drawings represent the group consensus that was reached at the October 23rd alumni meeting. If you don't like it, you should have been there. (3) Some windows and doors are placed very approximately. Not all of the windows necessarily will exist (alternately, there could even be additional windows). (4) The fire escapes and roofs are not shown. (5) Not all appliances are drawn. Those that are drawn have been placed somewhat haphazardly. Basement: (6) The principal change is that the stairway will be moved to outside of the existing basement. The new doorway from the stair will not interfere with existing plumbing (I have personally checked this). First Floor: (7) The new bedroom (where the back porch currently stands) has been made the same size as the new rear bedrooms on the top floor. The closets will help as a sound, etc. buffer between the bedroom and the kitchen. (8) I have left windows on the drawing between the living room and the new TV room (currently known as the front porch). We didn't discuss if windows would be good here or not. (9) The TV room (again, this is the current front porch) and front airlock (vestibule? entranceway? There must be some standard term for this) will be the first things to go if we are short of funds. (10) The current bedroom, T.C.'s closet (the closet beneath the stairs leading to the second floor), and Garrett's wall (the short wall between the current living room and dining room jutting inward from the outside wall and terminating at the current doorway) remain as they currently exist. (11) Any new construction (especially the airlock) will have insulation. (12) The new kitchen will have door(s) that will be magnetically released in the event of a fire alarm. This way we can leave the door(s) open to facilitate traffic without violating fire code. (13) If there is any problem with the proposed changes in the floor plans for the airlock with regards to fire code, we will check if it is possible to keep things as they are (not add an airlock, for example) rather than to erect a wall as shown in the architect's September 1999 drawings. Second Floor: (14) Yes, the bathrooms are spacious. They won't seem nearly so spacious once someone puts a cabinet in them. (15) The closet opening off the hallway is intended to hold file cabinets and mail boxes. It is shown with a door (and should be built as such), but if, in use, we find that the door is in the way, we can always remove it. (In the architect's drawings this was a second closet to the new southeastern bedroom.) (16) We will need some sort of fire escape from the new bedrooms. People questioned the security of such a thing, but seeing as the living room windows haven't been locked in months, this just isn't a serious concern. (17) The front bedroom and the south side bedroom remain as they currently exist. (18) The upstairs bathrooms with NOT have linen closets. If we need storage space, we can add supplemental cabinets at our leisure. (19) All bathrooms will have exhaust fans.
